There can’t be a better way on the planet to wake up than to the gentle lowing of cows, and the smell of sweet farm air drifting through the bedroom window. We wanted to explore the farm before it got too hot, so Lib took us out first thing to meet all the animals including their new thoroughbred filly and a calf who’s only a few weeks old. One of the cows really liked Jose and wouldn’t stop licking his elbow. I loved cuddling all the animals and feeding them cookies.
After a little bush walk through the property it was time for Hobbiton. Since this one is Jose’s bucket list day, I’ll leave it to him to fill yall in on. I will say this though, few things meet my expectations, never mind exceed them. What I love most about the Lord of the Rings is Peter Jackson’s exacting attention to detail, and this was exemplified by the Hobbiton experience. I was absolutely blown away. On our way back to the farm we stopped in Cambridge for lunch at this adorable church converted to a restaurant called the Good George Brewery. We ordered a pitcher some fries and a dozen wings. When they turned up both of us could not believe the massive plate of wings was placed before us. So we figured a dozen wings would be similar to about a pound and a half of wings at home. Wrong. Here one chicken wing is a whole wing, instead of being broken up into two like at home( the wing part and the little drum stick part). So they were actually serving us 24 wings, which we figured probably the equivalent of 4 pounds of wings. Needless to say we rolled home in a meat coma. Back at the farm Jim and Lib shared a drink with us while we watched the sun set and Jim helped up figure out how to start our own farm. The whole day was idyllic. I’m afraid that if we had wanted to post a blog in real time we should have planned days that were less jam packed. So far we’ve been collapsing into bed pretty quick. But I promise all our pictures are coming!
