Te Motu lunch makes a big top five!

Posted on February 25, 2017February 15, 2021 by Tara

Like most of us, I love to eat.  I’m always on the look out for my next incredible dinning experience.  The world of food is way too varied to say I have a favourite restaurant or meal, but I can lump them together into my top 5 meals ever eaten.  So far the list is as follows (in no particular order):

  • Buca- Toronto
  • Cirque du Soleil’s Joya – Mayan Riviera Mexico
  • Vineland Estates – Niagra on the Lake
  • Langdon Hall- Cambridge

And the new comer to my top five meals… The Shed at Te Motu, Waiheke Island NZ

The newest edition to my list of epic meals.  The Fuellers pamphlet described it as the only “shed style” winery on the island, with out door dining.  In my opinion, all vineyard restaurants should be outside.  Either overlooking the vines or right in them, Te Motu’s Shed restaurant was the latter.  We sat at teak tables right next to the vines, under the shade of swathes of fabric and umbrellas.  We were advised that the plates were big enough to share, so we ordered some braised lamb with a gazpacho style salad.  Normally I wouldn’t mention the bread (unless it’s the keg’s sourdough), but we were given some of the local olive oil and it was a transcendent experience.  I’m afraid I’ll never be able to enjoy the EVOO we get at home after this fresh island olive oil.  Everything during the meal was farm fresh and if it wasn’t locally sourced, it was grown right on site.  One of the best meals I’ve ever had, in the most gorgeous setting!  As we strolled back down to the road Jose uttered what I’m sure will be the sentence of the trip, “ We haven’t seen any sheep yet.  I’d sure like to see a sheep that I’m not currently eating.”
